Ronald H. Coelyn
Founding Managing Partner

Ron is the Founding Partner of The Coelyn Group which specializes in Healthcare and Life Sciences. For the past 17 of his 30-year career, he has been active in these industries as a senior executive officer and, most recently, as an executive search consultant (both as a Founder of this Firm and as a Partner in the prestigious international executive search firm SpencerStuart). His executive search consulting practice spans engagements ranging from Chairman of The Board, Members of The Board of Directors, President & Chief Executive Officer to a variety of Vice Presidential and other senior level executive positions.

Ron was previously the President & Chief Operating Officer of a medical diagnostics company (therapeutic drug monitoring and instruments) responsible for sales and marketing, research and development, regulatory and clinical affairs, quality systems, manufacturing, finance, etc. He arranged several Private Placement investment transactions to fund scientific discovery and development, successfully took the company public in an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of equity securities, and later sold the company to a large multinational Life Sciences firm.

He was also Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer, and a majority shareholder of a healthcare information systems company focused on practice management and electronic medical records for physician and dental group practices, small hospitals, clinics, surgical centers and other alternate care delivery sites. The company grew rapidly under his leadership and he was instrumental in its subsequent acquisition by a large computer hardware manufacturer and value-added-reseller (VAR).

Previously, he was a senior executive officer for a Fortune 100 financial services company that grew from $100 million to more than $1.4 billion in annual revenues over a six-year period. For several years he was responsible for the company’s international business operations headquartered in London, England. He was also a Vice President, Corporate Finance for a prestigious regional investment-banking firm.

During his career, Ron has completed more than 40 mergers and acquisitions, numerous private placements, foreign currency swaps, income tax treaty arbitrage transactions, strategic partnerships and IPO's. He has also been a corporate director, shareholder and founder of companies involved with pharmaceutical research and development (cancer research, monoclonal antibodies, etc), medical device instrumentation (analytical instrumentation), and medical in vitro diagnostics (automated chromosome analysis).

Ron is presently Co-Chairman of LINC (Life Sciences Industry Council) of Orange County, California; a member of the Bio Medical Industry Council's Board of Directors; an Advisory Board Member of the American Heart Association (Irvine, California); and an associate member of AdvaMed, previously the Health Industry Manufacturer's Association (HIMA); a Member of the Board of Intellectual Capital of Gerbsman Partners, LLC., a specialty investment bank and turn-around/crisis management firm; a frequent speaker at the Capital Roundtable; and until recently, a Corporate Director/Member of The Board of Directors and Chairman of the Compensation Committee of Endologix, Inc., a publicly-traded medical device company.

Lynn S. Nishimoto
Founding Partner

Lynn is a Co-Founding Partner of The Coelyn Group and Managing Director of Recruitment. For the past 12-years, she has led executive search engagements in several Life Science industry sectors including medical devices, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical diagnostics, and healthcare provider services. Possessing engaging intellectual incisiveness and piercing intelligence, her projects range from Corporate Directors to Presidents & Chief Executive Officers, to Chief Scientific Officers and Vice Presidents of various disciplines such as sales, marketing, finance, clinical and regulatory affairs and quality systems.

Previously, Lynn held various engineering management and regulatory positions with large, international corporations and several entrepreneurial high-tech/biotechnology firms.  She was responsible for contract negotiation and managed the completion of complex multi-million dollar projects. She also managed regulatory compliance, including periodic regulatory and quality system audits by several governmental agencies. Several years later, she was recruited by a prestigious boutique executive search consultancy firm that specialized in the recruitment of senior level executives in the engineering and bioengineering space.

In 1990, Lynn was the Founder and Managing Director of a successful business consulting practice focused on strategic planning, capital formation and corporate partnerships with early and developing stage high-tech and biotech companies. In 1992, she decided to return to the executive search profession and co-founded The Coelyn Group. She is a member of LINC (LifeSciences Industry Council) of Orange County, California.

Susan F. Norton
Managing Director

Susan is a Managing Director in The Coelyn Group which specializes in Healthcare and Life Sciences. Susan has spent 20-years working for start-up, medium-size and Fortune 100 high growth companies. She has a very broad range of senior executive experience in general management, manufacturing, marketing, business development, research and development, facilities, customer and community relations and human resources.

Susan was previously an executive with Guidant Corporation ("Guidant"), a medical device company with 6,000 employees and $1.3 billion in sales. Guidant was acquired by Boston Scientific Corporation who later sold the Vascular Division to Abbott Laboratories.  While at Guidant, Susan served as Vice President, Global Learning & Development where she led the implementation of a successful global strategy for centralizing a very decentralized training and development function across Guidant Worldwide. During her tenure at Guidant, the Learning and Development group received the distinction of selection to the Training Top 100 Companies by Training Magazine for two consecutive years.

Susan also served as Vice President & General Manager of several business units where she directed the research and development, manufacturing operations and product marketing activities for a 500 member $160 million business with multiple years of successive revenue and market growth.

Prior to Guidant, Susan was on the senior management team of Devices for Vascular Intervention, Inc., a coronary atherectomy (plaque removal) company during a high growth period where revenue and headcount doubled over a two year period. Susan joined as Director, Human Resources and later became Vice President, Human Resources responsible for all human resources activities including: employee relations, recruiting, training and development, compensation and befefits, corporate culture and performance management.

Susan also held a variety of positions at Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. ("ACS") an interventional cardiology angioplasty and stent company, which was one of the fastest growing medical device companies in history, growing from inception through FDA approval to $100 million in sales in less than 5 years. ACS was acquired by Eli Lilly and Company and became part of the medical device division of the Company. Susan held management positions in product marketing, manufacturing and human resources during a high growth period. As a cardiology product manager she led the launch of the “rapid exchange” catheter platform which remains the gold standard in the industry today.

Susan served on the Board of the Southwest Riverside YMCA and was instrumental in the fundraising and building of the Valley’s first full service state-of-the art YMCA. Susan also worked with Habitat for Humanity of Temecula, CA and the United Way. Susan has been active in her community through serving on boards and involvement with the public school system and sports programs.

Susan holds a Master of Arts in Management from University of Redlands and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Rutgers University.
